DJ DefWheezer grew up in the Rustwest. The first record he stole was a now-out-of-print vP of Funkadelic covering Kraftwerk’s “Calculator.” He began playing in local bars and clubs in his hometown of Detroit. He soon blew up in the Motor City and moved to San Francisco. He was taken under the wing of Dark DJ, and it was her that took him on tour to London, Minske, Tokyo, LA, and Miami. He has since had untold (literally) success, blowing up dance floors across the globe to sold-out crowds. He is also a prolific and respected producer, having released two albums and 10 EPs since he got up this morning. His most recent mega-hit track, “My Wheez is the Def,” has been charted by every single fucking DJ listed on Resident Advisor and Discogs combined.
DJ DefWheezer’s musical style reflects his eclectic influences- from integer 8 bit serialism to jazz-flunk fusion- all distilled down to pure, crystalline Soundgasm. He’s not limited to minimal Soundgasm, instead combining dysco, dubst3p, clickslop, glitch, and progressive circuitbent to create a bold neo sound scape that the entire staff of Maelstrom has been trying to name for the last year (a senior editor suggested “Oh Baby YES?!”).
